Psalm 78 and Truth:78
5 He established a testimony in Jacoband appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathersto teach to their children,6 that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children,7 so that they should set their hope in Godand not forget the works of God,but keep his commandments;8 and that they should not be like their fathers,a stubborn and rebellious generation,a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God.
Psalm 78:5-8 ESV
A Discipleship Ministry for Children and Their Parents
It is from these verses that the ministry Truth:78 (formerly Children Desiring God) draws its name. This ministry has been particularly instrumental in how we have discipled our own children. And this ministry has been influential on how we view children's ministry at The Hills Church. We have invested both as a family and as a church in their resources and in attending their conferences. If I had but one resource outside of the Bible in which to guide parents to look to for material in discipling their children, this would be it.
If you are not familiar with Truth:78, I encourage you to visit their web page and become familiar with them. Take time to watch the video of David Michael, the ministry's founder, sharing his vision for Truth:78. I have met Pastor David in person; he is as genuine and passionate in person as you'll see him on the video (actually, even more so in person). He has a genuine, deep longing to see children come to Christ and truly desire and savor God. Take time to read the vision of the ministry and the history of the ministry as well. There are not only resources for the church, but ones for family devotions (they can be easier and less awkward than you think 😀) and scripture memory (known as "Fighter Verses™").
A Free Book
To really become familiar with the heart of the ministry, you can download for free an electronic copy of the latest book by David Michael, Zealous: 7 Commitments for the Discipleship of the Next Generation. The book is brief but deep in how it thinks through discipling children for the glory of God.
